Chinese Zodiac
Chinese Zodiac Compatibility.
Gary does not read the signs as personalities. He reads them as who you clash with, who you click with, and when. Here is the whole compatibility system: enemy signs, friend signs, and the one true soulmate pair.
How Gary reads compatibility
Most charts stop at personality. Gary reads the twelve signs as relationships and timing, on four layers: the six enemy pairs that clash, the four friend groups (trines) that get along, the one true soulmate pair, and a timing rule that says things work out in your own year and go against you in your enemy's.
The six enemy signs
Every sign has one opposite, its enemy. Spend a year in your enemy's energy and things tend to go against you. The six pairs, with the examples Gary actually uses:
- Rat and Horse. Shaq the Rat and Kobe the Horse clashed for years, and Kobe died in 2020, a Rat year. The biggest upset in boxing fits the pattern too: Buster Douglas, a Rat, knocked out Mike Tyson, a Horse.
- Ox and Goat. Gary calls this the worst of the enemy pairs. NATO is an Ox and Russia is a Goat, two adversaries locked in a proxy war.
- Tiger and Monkey. America is a Monkey nation, so loud Tigers land in the Monkey's house. It is why Tigers like Andrew Tate keep getting banned here.
- Cat and Rooster. 50 Cent the Cat spent years at war with Roosters. Diddy and The Game both ride the other side of this pair.
- Dragon and Dog. Trump the Dog has spent his career at war with the Dragons across the aisle. In history, Julius Caesar the Dragon faced Pompey the Dog.
- Snake and Pig. JFK was a Snake, and his biggest enemy was the CIA, founded in 1947, a Pig year.
The four friend groups (trines)
The flip side is just as real. The signs fall into four groups of three that naturally get along, what Gary calls the trines:
- Rat, Monkey and Dragon. The schemers and visionaries. The Rat gets along best with the Dragon and the Monkey.
- Ox, Snake and Rooster. The disciplined and loyal. Gary, a Snake, married a Rooster and has stayed married over two decades by the system.
- Goat, Pig and Cat. The charmers. Goat and Pig together are Gary's money-maker, one of the strongest pairings on the chart.
- Horse, Dog and Tiger. The loyal and independent. The Horse and Dog bond is, in Gary's words, the best in all of Chinese astrology: the Horse is the 7th sign, the Dog is the 11th, and 7 and 11 are best friends.
The one soulmate pair: Rat and Ox
There is exactly one soulmate pair in Gary's system: the Rat and the Ox. The Ox is the enforcer and the Rat is the mastermind, and one always takes care of the other. Of every match on the chart, this is the only one Gary calls a true soulmate.

Compatibility is also timing
The signs are not just about who you marry or partner with. Gary reads them as timing. In your own year, and around your friend signs, things tend to work out. In your enemy sign's year, they tend to go against you. That is why a Rat lays low in a Horse year, and an Ox is careful in a Goat year.
