The Chinese Zodiac, the GG33 way.

How the twelve signs work

The Chinese zodiac runs on a twelve-year cycle, one animal per year, repeating every twelve years. Each year also carries one of five elements, which is why a Fire Horse and a Water Horse are not quite the same animal.

One catch most people miss: the sign turns over at Chinese New Year, not January 1. A late-January birthday often belongs to the previous year's animal, so check the full year-by-year chart of zodiac dates to be sure which sign is yours. Note too that Gary reads this sign as the Cat, what most Western charts call the Rabbit.

2026 is the Year of the Horse

On February 17, 2026, the zodiac rolls from the Snake into the Horse. Gary reads the Horse as hard-charging, active, freedom-driven energy, and it stacks on top of 2026 being a Universal 1 Year. So this is a year to move.

Timing cuts both ways. A Horse in a Horse year doubles up, and things tend to work out. The Rat, the Horse's enemy sign, should lay low. See the full read on the 2026 forecast.

Enemy signs and friend signs

This is the part of the system Gary leans on hardest. Every sign has an enemy sign, and when you spend a year in your enemy's energy, things tend to go against you. The six pairs:

  • Rat and Horse. Shaq the Rat and Kobe the Horse famously clashed, and Kobe died in a Rat year.
  • Tiger and Monkey. America is a Monkey nation, which is why so many Tigers end up banned here.
  • Cat and Rooster. 50 Cent the Cat and Diddy the Rooster never got along.
  • Dragon and Dog. Trump the Dog spent years at war with the Dragons across the aisle.
  • Ox and Goat. Gary's historical war examples line up on this pair again and again.
  • Snake and Pig. JFK the Snake versus the people who named it the Bay of Pigs.

The flip side is just as real: in your own year, and around your friend signs, things work out. Find your sign to see your enemy, your friends, and your year, or read the full compatibility chart.

Chinese zodiac: common questions

What is the Chinese zodiac?

The Chinese zodiac is a twelve-year cycle, with one animal sign per year: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Cat, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each year also carries one of five elements. In Gary's GG33 system the signs are read as energy and timing, not just personality.

What animal year is 2026?

2026 is the Year of the Horse. The sign turns over at Chinese New Year, so 2026 becomes a Horse year on February 17, 2026. Before that date it is still the Year of the Snake.

What are enemy signs in the Chinese zodiac?

Gary teaches six enemy pairs: Rat and Horse, Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Cat and Rooster, Dragon and Dog, and Snake and Pig. When you are in your enemy sign's year, things tend to go against you. In your own year, things work out.

How do I find my Chinese zodiac sign?

It is set by your birth year, counted from Chinese New Year. The free GG33 reading finds your sign and element for you, and handles the new-year boundary so a January or early-February birthday is read correctly.
